The debate over the “munipalization” of services during the xix Century in Italy: Towards the expansion of the goals of the State

<p>In Western European countries, particularly in Italy, the municipal trading of public services –municipalizzazione dei pubblici servizi– was not just a debate focused on the organizational and managerial forms of providing local public services. On the contrary, the discussion on municipal trading was part of a previous, wider and more complex debate, not only legal –regarding the enlargement of public functions– but also ideological; this last one being linked with the typical nineteen-century discussion between liberalism and socialism.
